GLFHC is incredibly proud of Bienvenido ‘Ben’ Gonzalez, a devoted Community Health Worker, Medical Assistant, and driver of our Clinic on Wheels, who was honored by the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers earlier this month with the Health Center Employee Award.
In true telenovela fashion, the Mass League has captured Ben’s story in a special video skit — featuring Ben and fellow staff — that debuted at the Annual Awards Gala in Boston on June 12 (see video below).
Ben began his time at GLFHC in Securities and Facilities, transitioning into the Health Care for the Homeless Program as a driver of the Mobile Health Clinic. Driven by a desire to serve more, he then became a Community Health Worker and is now also a Certified Medical Assistant.
Throughout his time at GLFHC, Ben consistently demonstrates reliability, adaptability, and a deep commitment to improving access to care for vulnerable patients, especially individuals experiencing homelessness. Once, during an overdose emergency, community members sought out Ben because of the trust he built with them. He responded quickly, administering Narcan, and saved a life.
Ben regularly goes above and beyond — volunteering for evening and weekend events, maintaining our Mobile Health Clinics, supporting clinical care, coordinating with our community partners, and stepping in even on his day off to ensure services continue without interruption.
He embodies GLFHC’s mission of equity, access, dignity, and care without barriers. Ben is very deserving of the Mass League’s Health Center Employee Award.
