Greater Lawrence Family Health Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program with MCPHS University is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, we profiled graduates of our teaching program over the past few months. This is the final of three parts.

Dr. Selma Kajtazovic, PharmD, is currently a clinical psychiatric pharmacist at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts for patients with mood and affective disorders. The PGY-1 pharmacy residency program at GLFHC inspired her to create opportunities for continued face-to-face patient care and the importance of transitions of care. This guided Selma to shape her practice to include leading skills-based medication management groups, advocate for creating long-acting injectable antipsychotic outpatient services, and begin developing a formal transitions of care clinical program.

Dr. Vincent Lam, PharmD, is currently a clinical pharmacy specialist at Boston Medical Center. He is implementing PrEP services in the primary care clinics with goals to expand into HIV and hepatitis C treatment in the future. Being a part of the GLFHC & MCPHS University pharmacy residency instilled in me the passion to build a community with patients and interdisciplinary members to address healthcare gaps and needs.

Dr. Emily Canuel, PharmD, is currently employed at GLFHC as a Clinical Pharmacist, also assisting with operating the Coumadin Line and precepting pharmacy residents in their clinical pharmacy services learning experience. She feels that her residency through GLFHC and MCPHS helped shape her desire to be a life-long teacher and learner through working with various students, patients, and health professionals

Dr. Qitong (Coco) Yang, PharmD, currently works remotely as an MTM Pharmacist at Centene, which is a healthcare company that provides managed care services to patients with Medicare and Medicaid, among other insurances. She conducts various levels of medication reviews and communicates with patients and providers on a daily basis. Some of the biggest experiences from GLFHC that shaped her career are the amount of patient education and motivational interviewing she conducted, and learning how to become resourceful, adaptable, and proactive in the face of all kinds of challenges or barriers she may encounter going forward.
