Medical Interpreter Training and Advanced Medical Interpreter Training
Designed to assist the prospective medical interpreter in developing the skills necessary to facilitate effective, professional, and reliable medical interpretation in a healthcare setting. The MIT course is a 60- hour training on the fundamentals of medical interpreting, stressing techniques, ethics, and anatomy and physiology. The Advanced Medical Interpreter Training program provides working interpreters with opportunities for continuing education and networking.
The Northeast Tobacco Free Community Partnership
AHEC houses this program, funded through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This program works to support community efforts to lower smoking prevalence and exposure to secondhand smoke. The partnership works with local coalitions and policy leaders to combat the tobacco industry’s influence and encourage smokers to quit. Lawrence Latino Nursing Program (LLNP)
Engages and assists primarily Latino girls and young women; nurturing their educational dreams of a career in the healthcare field. The program’s intent is to prepare a diverse nursing workforce that is culturally competent and sensitive to the needs of a vulnerable and underserved population; ultimately improving access to quality education and career opportunities for young Latino women in the Merrimack Valley. Components of this program include the High School Internship Program (offered year round for high school students interested in healthcare careers), the Summer Academy (an intensive summer program designed to boost entry level healthcare career skills and knowledge), and the nursing program component, offering tutoring and mentorship to students pursuing nursing careers.
