Alternative/ Integrative Medicine at GLFHC medicine utilizes healing modalities to complement allopathic approaches. These approaches are integrated to best address an individual’s unique set of conditions and circumstances, to address the full range of influences that affect health. Greater Lawrence Family Health Center incorporates alternative medicine into primary care through groups visits featuring acupuncture, herbal medicine, tai chi, yoga, and breathing exercises.
Greater Lawrence Family Health Center is the largest group medical visit program in the country. In addition to programs for obesity for adults, children, and families, group visits for chronic disease management, diabetes and heart disease, chronic pain, addiction medicine (smoking, suboxone), and pregnancy are also offered. Tai Chi, Acupuncture, and Yoga are offered through the Group Medical Visit model as a complement to traditional medicine.
GLFHC offers a diabetes education program for patients accredited by the American Diabetes Association. The program, staffed by a team of bilingual Registered Nurses, Registered Dietitians and Registered Pharmacists, helps patients learn to balance their blood sugar within the demands of everyday living.
Group exercise visits are offered to assist with weight management.
Your primary care provider can provide a referral to the programs described above, as part of your patient-centered medical home at GLFHC.
