3 Ways to Stick to Healthy Eating During the Holidays

November 7, 2018

It’s the holiday season, and we all know what that means – tasty meals and treats! Unfortunately, that also means this is an easy time of the year for people to “fall off the wagon” and break the diet they have been working hard to balance. With seemingly endless meals, festive snacks, and tempting desserts, it is easy to fall back into an unhealthy pattern – but don’t worry! We’ve got a few tips to help keep you eating healthy throughout the season.

1. Make socializing, rather than food, the purpose of your holiday event or get together.

The holidays are not just about food and treats. They are about spending time with loved ones, family, and friends. Talk to these people and share stories! There are probably people in your family you don’t get to see except this time of year. Socializing can keep your mouth busy with conversation instead of chewing.

2. It’s OK to say “no thank you.”

Do not be afraid to say “no thank you” when offered a beverage or treat you do not feel is suitable for your diet. People will understand if you explain that you are working hard on your diet, and will not be offended if you politely refuse their gesture

3. Keep your portions in check

A key piece of many successful dieting techniques is tracking calories. Know what your daily calorie intake is, and stick to it during the holiday season. If you have a smartphone, you can use apps like Lose It! and MyFitnessPal to look up and log your food for the day.
