5 Ways to Stay Active During Cold Weather

As the weather gets colder, the task of staying active becomes more difficult for many people. It’s much easier to bundle up inside and drink a nice cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace! Still, staying active is very important for living a healthy lifestyle, whether it’s 70 degrees outside or just a frigid 10. Here are five ways you can stay active in the cold weather ahead:
1. Going to the Gym
Attending a gym will allow you to perform your regular workout routines in a climate-controlled setting. Run, lift, and exercise indoors if you are looking to keep your workout routines going throughout the winter.
2. Sledding
Sledding is fun for kids and parents alike! Take it to the snowy hills with your children and engage in an active pastime everybody can enjoy. (The bigger the hills, the more exercise you’ll get bringing your sled to the top.)
3. Ice Skating
Strap on the blades and cruise around your local pond or ice rink. Skating is a great source of cardio, and a great way to spend time with friends, family or that special someone. Don’t know how to skate? There’s always time to learn! Challenge yourself this winter by giving it a try.
4. Skiing/Snowboarding
For the more adventurous looking to stay active this winter, the slopes are luckily not too far! Much like ice skating, if you don’t know how to ski or snowboard, there are plenty of ways to learn – most ski resorts offer rentals and lessons, for example.
5. Shoveling
This may not be the most enjoyable winter activity, but it is certainly healthy… and necessary! By shoveling, you’re not only staying active – you’re saving money on expensive snow removal products and services.
