3 Ways to Help Yourself Feel Better if You Get Sick

November 28, 2018

Unfortunately, there’s no guaranteed way to keep yourself from getting sick when viruses like the cold and flu are going around. There’s still plenty you can do to feel better, though – here are a few tips!

1. Stay hydrated.
You’ve probably heard a doctor or nurse tell you to “drink plenty of fluids” when you’re sick… and that’s because it can really help cut back on the lousy feelings you get! Your body uses up its supply of water more quickly when you have the cold or flu, so be sure to keep it hydrated. (And stay away from things that will dehydrate it, like salty snacks or alcohol!)

2. Take a break, or time off if you need it.
When you’re not feeling well, trying to keep working at the same pace is almost impossible. Your body just doesn’t have the energy it needs! If you’re able to take a day or two off, do it – but if not, try to find a way to slow down and give yourself a break. Your body will thank you!

3. Enjoy the little things.
When life is already stressful, getting sick can seem unbearable. That’s why it’s so important to focus on the little things that make you feel better, like taking a hot shower or bath, watching a funny TV show, or eating a delicious, comforting meal. Find things to look forward to!

If you’re still not feeling great, remember that GLFHC patients can always make use of our Urgent Care services. Learn more on our Urgent Care page and give us a call to schedule an urgent care appointment. We’re here when you need us… even on nights and weekends!
