GLFHC Programs and Services

In addition to being the leader in primary care and community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), the Greater Lawrence Community Health Center take a holistic approach by providing patients with a wide range of health education and prevention programs.

Lawrence Family Medicine Residency - The first accredited community health center-based residency program in the country, which trains 27 medical residents annually.

Family Pharmacy - The first public retail pharmacy in Massachusetts approved for Telepharmacy, a cutting edge technology using remote medication dispensers.  The Family Pharmacy offers discounted medications to qualifying patients and is open to the public.

Latino CEED: REACH New England - A CDC-funded Center of Excellence focused on providing technical assistance, information, and training across New England in Latino communities to eliminate disparities related to asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and breast and cervical cancer. Integrative Medicine - A disease management program using alternative therapies, including hypnosis, acupunture, t'ai chi, and group exercise activities.

Health Care for the Homeless - Outpatient medical care for homeless clients at 14 shelters, drop-in centers, and soup kitchens located throughout the Merrimack Valley.

HIV Education - An acclaimed county-wide program, providing case management, prevention education, counseling and testing, and community outreach for high risk individuals.

Maternal and Child Health - Nutritional counseling, care coordination, and social case management for at-risk women and their children.

High Risk OB Group - A weekly OB/GYN clinic, full OB coverage, a Residency rotation in obstetrics including two OB fellowships, and nurse case management leading to fewer referrals for expensive tertiary care in Boston.

Asthma Self-Management Education - A 3-year project addressing the disproportionate prevalence of asthma among Latino adults and children.  Educational sessions empower patients to manage and control this chronic illness.

New Balance Foundation Imaging Center - Mammography and imaging services for underserved women facing linguistic and cultural barriers to lifesaving diagnostic screenings.

School-Based Health Centers - On-site, clinical care, social services, health education, and counseling for more than 4,500 students at two local high schools.  Providers address the continuum of issues impacting adolescent and teen health.

Reach Out And Read - An early literacy program with physicians giving new books to children at well-child checkups along with guidance for parents on the importance of reading aloud to promote langugage skills.

ADHD Clinic - A best practice model for ADHD assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of children between ages 6 and 12 years old.  This program helps families with coping strategies and maximizes children's ability to function successfully at home, school and play.

Northeast Center for Healthy Communities - A resource information center providing technical assistance, training, and consultation services to 48 communities north of Boston.

Merrimack Valley Area Health Education Center - Training programs for health professionals, paraprofessionals, and students pursuing health care careers.
