The North site clinic was chosen because it is a “shovel-ready” project with construction scheduled to begin in early August. The renovation will more than double the number of exam rooms at the clinic, bringing the total to 29, and will enable the addition of a new full service pharmacy. With the expanded facility GLFHC will be able to hire more primary care physicians, nurses, and physicians assistants. Greater Lawrence Family Health Center serves over 43,000 uninsured and underinsured patients at four clinics in Lawrence and 18 sites throughout the Merrimack Valley that offer a variety of health services. Nationwide, the Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program (CIP) grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will support the construction, repair and renovation of over 1,500 health center sites. More than 650 centers will use the funds to purchase new equipment or health information technology (HIT) systems, and nearly 400 health centers will adopt and expand the use of electronic health records. |
